Économiste agricole, le Dr Habibatou I. Thiam est titulaire d’un doctorat en Climate Change and Land Use de la Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), au Ghana. Ses travaux de thèse ont porté sur les questions d’adaptation des terres affectées par la salinisation face aux effets et impacts croissants du changement climatique.
Elle est également titulaire d’un master en économie et politique agricoles obtenu dans le cadre du Programme de troisième cycle interuniversitaire (PTCI) de l’Université Thomas Sankara, à Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso). Au cours de cette formation, elle a effectué un stage à la Société d’aménagement et d’exploitation des terres du delta du fleuve Sénégal et des vallées du fleuve Sénégal et de la Falémé (SAED), au sein de la Division du développement local et de l’appui aux collectivités (DDAC). Elle a également réalisé un stage chez Syngenta dans le cadre du projet Seed2B, où elle a contribué au suivi des coopératives agricoles dans l’utilisation du produit Apron Star pour le traitement des semences dans la région de Kaolack.
Le Dr Thiam est par ailleurs Fellow du programme African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD).
À l’issue de son doctorat, elle a rejoint l’Initiative Prospective Agricole et Rurale (IPAR) en 2025, où elle a contribué à la mise en œuvre des projets AgMIP et PNDIES. Elle coordonne actuellement le projet African Think Tank Platform (ATTP), pour lequel IPAR assure le rôle de chef de file de la thématique « Changement climatique et sécurité alimentaire

Dr. Habibatou I. Thiam is an agricultural economist who holds a Ph.D. in Climate Change and Land Use from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. Her research focuses on adaptation strategies for land affected by salinisation in the context of the growing effects of climate change.
She also holds a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics and Policy, earned through the PTCI programme at Thomas Sankara University in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. During this program, she completed an internship at the SAED (Société d’aménagement et d’exploitation des terres du delta du fleuve Sénégal et des vallées du fleuve Sénégal et de la Falémé), within the Division of Local Development and Community Support (DDAC). She also undertook an internship at Syngenta as part of the Seed2B project, helping to monitor the use of the Apron Star product for seed treatment by agricultural cooperatives in the Kaolack region.
Dr Thiam is also a Fellow of the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) program.
After completing her PhD, she joined the Initiative for Agricultural and Rural Prospective Studies (IPAR) in 2025, where she worked on the AgMIP and PNDIES projects. She currently coordinates the African Think Tank Platform (ATTP) project, for which IPAR is the lead partner on the ‘Climate Change and Food Security’ theme.
